Painting with Light
I helped make history! I was one of the Light Painters in this project.
The Big Shot is one of the photography projects from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). The project this year is to “paint” the Cowboys Stadium with light. There were about 2,400 volunteers to make this happen last Saturday.
It was a cloudy 50 degrees day with wind gust about 8 to 10 mph (wind chill 46 degrees).
Getting the instructions from the Team Leader.
Everybody was in position – one parking spot at a time.
Tested out the lights – we painted the parking lot with lights. The glass on the side of the stadium will reflect the light on the pavement to the cameras. In other words, the pavement acts as a huge softbox.
Lights out: This is the first time in history, the Cowboys Stadium turns off all the lights including the emergency lights (Exit signs, etc.)
The shooting platform was 30 something feet high in the air.
Meeting of the minds (the Team Leaders).
The nearby Texas Rangers Ballpark.
Mission accomplished! Turned the lights back on.
I was there for about 2 hours. It was a fun event. Everyone there was in high spirit. Thank you, RIT!

Cool – you must have been in Team 2 🙂 The pic with the team leader has me and several of my “Chics Who Click” group friends who where there to paint as well. Nice write/pic up!
Yes, I was in Team 2. I did shoot a few team leader pics. That was the one I like most. It looks like a few outer space aliens talking to each others. 😉 I don’t mind to send you the other team leader pics if you want to see them. Thank you for visiting my blog! Ed.
Great write-up. It was a really fun night. I was Team 2 as well with Shantel and other Chics Who Click. I am wondering if you came by during our group shot in the parking lot? I remember a guy with a camera stopping who wasn’t with the news. Wonderful experience, glad to see you blog about it. 😀
Yes, it was fun. No, that wasn’t me. I don’t belong to any media house but I do event and all kinds of photography projects on a side. I know ‘the line’ to not to step on others’ toes. I was just enjoying a once in a life time experience there. I plan to post some more fuzzy team leaders pictures soon. Stay tuned! – Ed
